Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center

Chronic Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) encompasses a spectrum of disorders, however, the two most common disorders are ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Approximately 25% of patients with IBD have their onset of disease in childhood. This can cause special complications in pediatric patients, of which the most significant is growth failure.

We provide a team approach for the management of children and adolescents with these diseases. Patients with IBD have access to a nutritionist, nurse practitioner, psychologist, social worker and other consultants on an as needed basis so that preventive strategies can be discussed with the families. Excellent clinical care and participation in ongoing pediatric clinical trials puts us in the forefront for providing state of art care for these patients.

An endowed chair for research in Pediatric IBD has also been created at Wayne State University which should enhance our role in contributions to Pediatric IBD research.
